 Our Educational Institutions’ Individual Image

Our educational institutions are ideologically Christian and work under the maintenance of “The Lord is good” Baptist Church in Bodrog.  In the kindergarten and in the primary school we do not teach the theology of one particular Christian denomination, but we educate the children according to the fundamental truth of the Bible.

The name of our educational institution comes from the book of Proverbs chapter 9 verse10.

The Headmaster is the pastor of the local Baptist church. The managing collegiate are dedicated followers of Christ. Our work is supported by the parent-teacher association. The opening and closing ceremony of the academic year and the Christian holidays are held in the form of a church service, and we celebrate them together with the “Lord is Good” Baptist Church.

Short history

The Kindergarten was established in the year of the political transformation in Hungary in 1989 when the opportunities became wider. This was the first Christian kindergarten in the country. Attached to this, our primary school opened in September 1994. The Music School started in 1995.  The threefold educational institute serves the whole area, as a significant number of students are from the neighbourhood and from the county town, Kaposvár. As regards to transport to and from Kaposvár, we take students safely in our own school buses.

The Menedék (Refuge) Foundation handed over the rights of maintenance on 1^st September 2008 to the “Lord is Good” Baptist Church. Since then the institute has carried on the work according to the original purposes of the founders.

In September 2011 the Berzsenyi Dániel Kindergarten and Primary school in Nikla became associated institutes of our educational institute. In September 2012 we opened a kindergarten in Kaposvár.

Our school is a member of ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International), an international organization, which helps Christian education worldwide.

There are 27 children in the kindergarten, 108 in the primary and 77 in the music school in Bodrog as of 1^st September 2012. In Nikla 68 children attend the primary school and 29 the kindergarten. The kindergarten in Kaposvár has permission up to 25 children at present 22 attend it.

We are open and happy to visit churches and fellowships who invite us, to share about our ministry and our daily lives with those who are interested.

 BOK - Bodrog Educational Centre

The plans of the Bodrog Educational Centre (BOK) were first created in 1992. The leaders of the Refuge Foundation laid down the principles of the complex educational institute (kindergarten, primary and music school). In 1993, the BOK building project was started.

At the same time our church was outgrowing the hall in the mansion, so we needed to make plans for the construction of a new church building. In spring 2006 our fellowship decided to join the construction of the Bodrog Educational Centre as a co-owner. Thus the auditorium of the two-storey building, along with several other smaller rooms, are used by the congregation as the premises for the Sunday service and for youth group meetings, while other rooms would be shared. One great advantage of the shared use of the building is that it makes the utilisation of the building more efficient and its maintenance more economical. The Foundation and the congregation laid down an agreement for the bases of the co-ownership.

The spiritual base of the relationship between the congregation and the Foundation is the fact that the local Baptist church was born when the Refuge Foundation started its ministry in Bodrog. Even today, when a new worker moves to Bodrog, he or she joins in the fellowship of the local church whatever Christian denomination he or she is from. Also the main mission of the congregation is the ministry of the Foundation, given its spiritual background.  In the autumn 2008 the ownership changed and most of the services have been taken over from the Foundation by the congregation.  

Since spring of 2006 the construction works have speeded up. The donations of local and other Christian churches and private individuals enabled us to celebrate the opening of the church hall and the school wing on 8^th December 2007.  Since March 2008 the teaching has been taking place in the new building. On 1^st September 2009 the kindergarten, the kitchen, dining room and the extra classrooms and offices were opened. The children have attended the kindergarten in the new building since the 2009/2010 school year. In June 2009 the third phase of the work started: the construction of the residential flats. The whole building project was finished  in May 2010.
